Official Nike Springbok home long sleeve test worn rugby shirt from the 2001 international match between South Africa & Italy on the 17^th November, 2001. The match was played at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa, Italy.

This is Nike's superior 'match issue' version of the jersey, worn by Victor Matfield during the Autumn test match against Italy. It features 'SA Rugby Springboks' embroidered under the national crest, embroidered match details & date near the lower front hem (typo on the '07', which should have been '17'), and a #4 professionally sewn onto the back of the shirt.

The item also includes a letter of authenticity, signed by the Italian international player whom Matfield swapped his jersey with after the match (the previous owner, from which the jersey was bought by ourselves, Classic11 Shirts Ltd). This item is also presented in a special embossed gift box, designed to keep your collectable memorabilia safe for years to come (see photos).

A big turning point in Matfield's career came when he decided to leave the Blue Bulls for the Griquas in 1999, where he was also selected to represent the Cats in the Super 12 that year. The move allowed him to prove his worth, and in 2000 he was given the opportunity to represent the Bulls Super 12 team.

His hard work did not go unnoticed, and in 2001 he was finally selected for the Springbok squad, making his debut on 30 June 2001 against Italy. The Springboks player Italy once again on 17th November, in which Matfield scored a try during the match (see above video).

Matfield went on to help the Springboks' renaissance in 2004 and 2005; in the latter year, he made the five-man shortlist for IRB World Player of the Year.

Matfield was an instant selection for South Africa's 2007 World Cup winning-squad, and won the Man of the Match award in the final for his brilliant work in the line-out.
